This series of paintings all feature my grandmother's kitchen table. This table was the centre of her home for many years and I spent many hours sitting at this table with friends and family. Now it's in my studio, being used for solo meals, work and exhibitions. I enjoy the past that it brings.
The paintings are a development from the smaller still lives I've been painting over the years. When I started on the first of this series I felt that (in life) lines of communication can be faulty sometimes. I sought in these paintings to reveal the space between objects rather than purely the objects themselves, not giving all the information needed to make the shape. Leaving more for the viewer to do.
The objects are either personally important to me, or represent something I hold important. Music that runs through my life, a cup that was owned by someone special, a book that I read when I was ten. We listen to music in a different format, but the music is the same, this theme runs through all the paintings.
This series of work is ongoing, none of the paintings have been formally exhibited at time of writing. They are all 62cm x 62cm.
